Leadership and Staff
The CLUS is housed in the Geography-Earth Science Department at Shippensburg University, and is managed by a Director (Dr. Claire Jantz), Associate Director (Dr. George Pomeroy), and GIScience Director (Dr. Scott Drzyzga). Every project is supported by two full time staff and undergraduate or graduate student research.

Dr. Claire Jantz is the Director of the CLUS. She has extensive expertise in land use and land cover change analysis and modeling, and interdisciplinary research. Dr. Jantz has particular expertise within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, the Delaware River Basin, and the Delmarva Peninsula. She has participated in several collaborative research efforts funded by NASA, Maryland SeaGrant, NPS, and the William Penn Foundation.

    Holly Smith

    Holly was born and raised in the Pittsburgh area and moved to the Harrisburg area in the early 1990s. Prior to joining the CLUS she served as a program coordinator and educator for Audubon Pennsylvania and as the Master Watershed Steward Program coordinator for Penn State Extension, launching and leading the volunteer-based program in Cumberland, Franklin, and Adams counties. She enjoys just about anything outside including hiking, paddling, snorkeling, camping, and birding and is an enthusiastic supporter of local farms, whole food, native plants, and small businesses. Holly serves on the board of the Conodoguinet Creek Watershed Association and Capital RC&D and spends her Saturday mornings tending to rescue horses at Rock Run Animal Rescue.

    Alfonso Yáñez Morillo

    Research Analyst, Center for Land Use and Sustainability

    A.S. in forest engineering from the Universidad Politecnica of Madrid
    B.S. in biology from the Universidad Complutense of Madrid
    M.S. in environmental management and administration from the Fundación Biodiversidad

    Alfonso specializes in landscape ecology and connectivity and has over 10 years experience applying GIS to a wide range of environmental consultancy projects. Focus areas include environmental impact assessments, land use change, planning evaluation, forest fires, and ecological flows regimes. Alfonso is a certified Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) pilot.
